Today is the big
day, thought Angel. Yesterday the whole school was excited
about it, but Angel wasn’t so excited. Just the thought of
dress your best day made her shout, “I hate school!” She
really didn’t hate school, but hated that her clothes were all the
same: too big and very old. She hated that those mean girls
laughed because her shirtsleeves and pants were always rolled into
cuffs; the belts she wore made her pants and skirts look puffy on
each side, and the colors looked very old and faded.
Angel hates school
because the mean girls make fun of her. She hates her tiny house,
and she hates That Old Bike. But after sleeping over at a
friend’s house and visiting the city zoo, Angel realizes that she
may have been too quick to judge. That Old Bike is a short
story for children ages eight and up, and teaches a valuable
lesson in gratitude.
That Old Bike
